I’m a Mover…and Movement is Healing

I have been a mover for as long as I can remember—I actually hijacked a ballet class when I was 5! A former competitive gymnast and professional dancer, I have been a fitness instructor since I was 19. Now in my fifties, I’m still moving…even with two herniated discs in my lumbar spine and a total hip replacement in 2020.

Moving allows me to manage stress and anxiety. When I’m moving, I feel strong and empowered. For me, even when I’m in pain, movement is healing.

But for someone who lives in chronic pain, for someone who has been sedentary, or for someone who is carrying more weight than is comfortable, movement, much less exercise, can be scary and intimidating. It’s understandable that someone could be afraid, nervous, and just plain confused about where to go and what to do.

That’s where I come in. Grounded in my own life experiences, formal education, and 30 years spent in dance, yoga, and fitness, I specialize in helping people find the right path for their movement journey. I work one-on-one with clients who face a variety of challenges–chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, knee and hip injuries, or people completing cancer treatment. My goal is to help you get stronger and healthier so you can minimize your pain and maximize the quality of your life.

At MoveStudio in Far North Dallas, I teach group drop-in classes and small specialty series classes specifically geared towards people with injuries and chronic conditions. All classes are also offered 100% online via Zoom. I offer private training and rehabilitation at MoveStudio, in the comfort of your own home in North Dallas and surrounding areas, and one-on-one coaching online.

Movement is strength. Movement is empowering. Movement is independence. Movement is healing. But you have to start. I can help you take that first step, and safely help you on your journey.

Food Matters…and I’m a Foodie

I love food. I’m from a French-Louisiana family and food is an important part of our culture. I’ve been a part of the underground dining scene in Dallas, followed local chefs and mixologists, regularly attend wine and bourbon tastings, and even had a celebrity chef cook in my kitchen. I love to travel, and the food of a particular country or city is a major factor in choosing a destination—with Italy, New Orleans, and San Francisco being some of my faves.

I also understand that as we get older, our eating habits and nutrition have greater consequences on our health. In my late 40s, my weight, blood sugar, and blood pressure were up but my energy and sleep quality was down. I was stressed, my craving for sweets was out of control, and overall I just felt like crap. After two years of trying to exercise more and eat less, participating in several weight loss programs for women, and taking numerous nutrition courses, I realized that women “of a certain age” have different needs that quite frankly weren’t being met by those programs, no matter how great they are.

This inspired me to create Fit for Life Foodies, a 100% online nutrition course for women over 40. Based on realistic eating strategies, sound nutritional principles, and incorporating the latest science regarding hormones and their effects on metabolism and weight gain over 40, I personally lost 15 pounds, got off my blood pressure meds, and lowered my blood sugar. In addition to Fit for Life Foodies, I offer one-on-one nutritional coaching that incorporates simple, actionable plans for fat loss, lowering blood sugar, building muscle mass, and improving overall health and energy.
